Writing digits: explained simply
Learn the shapes of the digits 0 to 9. Look at the model, trace it and then write it yourself.
How to work it out
- Look closely at the shape: where are straight lines, curves and changes of direction?
- Write each digit clearly in its own box. Follow the writing direction practised at school.
An example, step by step
Practise writing the digit 3.
- Look at the printed 3 and its two curves.
- Slowly trace the grey model.
- Write your own 3 beside it. Compare its shape and direction with the model.
Your turn
Write the digit 2 three times. Which one is clearest?
Show the answer and method
Compare each 2 with the model: are its direction, curve and bottom line correct? More than one attempt may be correct.
